The title of this post comes from the movie “Sweet Home Alabama,” when Reese Witherspoon’s character says to another girl, “You have a baby… in a bar!” Well, ladies, you have a church… in a bar! Last Tuesday was our first official service at McGuire’s Irish Pub. The attendance number varies between 165-180, depending on who counted when, but what is certain: there was standing room only and 20+ people had to be turned away because there wasn’t enough room.
If you haven’t been, I encourage you to check it out. The message is the same as Sunday morning, but the music is different and there’s no child care. A few people have asked me if it’s okay to bring kids, since it’s a bar. Technically, the answer is yes, you can bring them. I brought mine, but I don’t know if I’d do it again. The baby cried, so my husband kept having to take him elsewhere. My six-year-old was bored and wouldn’t stop talking. My eleven-year-old thought it was cool, but she had already heard the message, so she was more interested in her ipod. So, to answer the question, you CAN bring kids, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll want to… at least not regularly. (But maybe that’s just me.)
What do you all think of the service? What do you like? What do you dislike? Please share your thoughts by posting comments!
